There is one story
Like the motorcycling equivalent of a Fight Club, the SCMG Café Racer Run's origin and creators are shrouded in mystery. If you ask ten different riders you'll get ten different answers:
"The run started as an outlaw street race. The race was announced each spring and fall by word of mouth only to avoid attracting attention by the police."
"At one time it was an officially-sanctioned and regulated event, even the sheriff was in on it, but after someone was killed it had to become more secretive."
"In the 60's the Crud's started the race as a way to initiate new members into the gang, it's been around since then in one form or another."
There is another story
While the stories of how the run started vary, everyone agrees that it was started by the Slimey Crud Motorcycle Gang (SCMG), and that they are still involved in the event to this day.
This is the real story
Slimey* explores the mythos and the logos of the 'run through coverage of the event, discussions with those who attend and conversations with those who started it all, the Slimey Crud Motorcycle Gang.
